South Sudan withdraws from African qualifiers for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022

South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has withdrawn from the African Qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, India 2022.


The Deputy Secretary General, who is acting as the Secretary General of the SSFA, Joseph Archangelo Apai confirms to SSD Sport's On Time in Juba, on Saturday 8th Jan, 2022.


"The withdrawal from U17 for women World Cup qualifiers, it's not new, this is something happen in 2020 during the former administration of SSFA." Archangelo said.


He added that" this came to result that we were having three competitions at the same time for senior team, U17 and U23. so, we decided to take two instead of all the three where by we withdraw from the under 17."



However, the acting secretary general of the SSFA said the current administration has no problem concerning the participation of different national teams.


The bright starlets were scheduled to face Eritrea in the first qualifying round this month, but with the withdrawal CAF confirmed Eritrea automatically progressed to the next round.

It's worth mentioning that Mauritania and Sierra Leone have withdrawn from the qualifiers due to unknown reasons.


Nineteen (19) teams were exempted notably Niger, Namibia, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Sao Tome E. Principe, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Guinea-Bissau.
